The South Australian Rabbit Association was formed on the 9th of June 1999. Our main objectives are to promote pedigree breeds, pet rabbits and responsible ownership for the purpose of showing, displays and educational use. We assist and support our members in all aspects of showing and breeding as well as offer general help and information on the keeping of pet rabbits. The Association holds shows, seminars, social gatherings, and also informative rabbit meetings. The meetings (held on the fourth Wednesday of every month) include guest speakers, trading table, supper facilities plus much more. Attending meetings is the best way to keep up with the latest information on rabbits.
The Associations objective is to promote purebred rabbits as pets and educate people on responsible ownership.
We assist and support the members of the Association through the organisation of rabbit shows, displays
and information on keeping of pet rabbits.
The Association is eager to liaise, advise and co-operate with all bodies that have an interest in the further promotion of domestic rabbits.
The South Australian Rabbit Association (SARA) was formed on the 9th of June 1999 by 4 keen rabbit fanciers, they went onto sit on the inaugural committee. SARA was the first formalised and incorporated rabbit club in this state. SARA also helped with the S.A. law review on the keeping and sale of domestic rabbits in 2000, with a favourable outcome. SARA is also responsible for the rabbit section at the Royal Adelaide Show, this includes both the two day show (held on the first weekend in September) and the display that runs throughout the 9 days of the show.
The Association holds shows, seminars, social gatherings and informative rabbit meetings. Most SARA functions are held at the Enfield Community Centre 540 Regency Road, Enfield, South Australia (with the exception of the Adelaide Royal Show).
SARA is affiliated with the British Rabbit Council (BRC) and use both the BRC breed standard and the ARBA (American Rabbit Breeders Assoc) standard of perfection.
