As a lot of breeders know, we have been trying to come up with some type of cooling system for our bunnies to replace frozen water bottles. We have trialed several things which we rejected for one reason or another, but now have just finished trialing our latest which we have called simply The Rabbit Patch Cooler Frame. It has exceeded our expectations and  had a thorough testing over the last  Aussie summer where temperatures were  in the mid to high 40´s. All rabbits using The Rabbit Patch Cooler Frame never even panted or looked uncomfortable with the heat. (check out Scotch Mist Thistledown on our news page a few hours before giving birth in 47´ heat)  We have three sizes. Small for the Netherland Dwarf, Medium for the Mini Lop and Large for the Dwarf Lops or other large breeds. We did use the smaller frames yesterday for the bunnies so that we would have enough cooler blocks to go round.  See pics of them below.

keeps bunnies cool without getting them wet

We now have a supply of these frames for sale if you don´t want to make them yourself. They are easy to make, the most expensive component being the heavy gauge 25mm mesh for the top of the frame so that the bunnies can´t put holes in the cooler block/s in the frame. The cooler block is simply a wine or water bladder or the cooler blocks you buy for your esky. Just fill the correct sized bladder with water and a spoon of salt and fill so that it still fits flat inside the frame without bulging, put it in the freezer, frame and all, freeze and put in bunnies cage to keep him/her cool without getting wet or uncomfortable.  See picture below.

If you don´t wish to make your own we are now selling them for $12 for the small frame, $17 for the medium frame and $22 for the large frame which I am sure that you would all agree is a very reasonable price. We supply the Rabbit Patch frames only, you have to supply the blocks yourself.

Bunny Food Mix

We had so many of our customers begging us for our bunny mix that we make up for our own bunnies that we are now packaging it and are pleased to offer our customers this packaged food in 1kg and 2kg packs. The 1kg pack costs $4.80, the 2kg pack costs $6.50

We also have packs of rabbit pellets enriched with lucerne for sale. 1kg pack $4.50 and the 2kg pack $6.80

Bunny Harness and Lead

Did you know that your bunny can be taught to walk with a harness and lead like a cat or dog? Well, they can, and you will be surprised how many people stop you on the street in total amazement and ask how you did that! You just say, ´I have a very clever bunny´. Just kidding. You tell them that you train them to walk just like a dog or cat, with a lot of love and patience. Cost of Harness $10 and cost of lead $7.

Bunny Bedding

A lot of bunny owners use straw or hay for their bunnies bedding, but we use shavings. Plain dry wood shavings, not sawdust, or shavings from treated timber as this will poison your bunny. The reason that we use shavings is that it absorbs both urine and odour, the bunny can nibble on it without it making it sick and it is easy to get rid of. Just use it for mulch in your garden. If you use hay, it will absorb urine to a degree, but not the odour, the same with straw. Unfortunately your bunny will not eat any hay it has urinated on so that it will be wasted, and after a few days starts to smell and stains your bunny´s feet. and you can´t use the hay as mulch unless you want your garden full of weeds (all the different seeds in the hay)

We can supply you with a kitchen tidy bag full which is enough to do two bedding changes in our standard outdoor cages, or 1 bedding change for our standard indoor cage. Cost is $6 per bag.
